    Can Google beat Facebook?

Do we think that Google can challenge Facebooks domination on the social network market? I can't see it personally. In the future, is there going to be two big players and are Facebook going to become a search engine of indexed fan pages?

I don't know if facebook still has plans to be the no.1 destination when it comes to the internet but google is deeply entrenched on the internet that it facebook dominating google is highly unlikely unless some company will try and compete with google for example bing.

to be honest i really do doubt that this would be possible, yes both sites are in the top 100 visited but for example, google+ , in my personal opinion i find that its horrible, the layout is just confusing and i just find the whole lot confusing so i dont use it, while loads of people have facebook and people can easily use it, yes it's annoying when the design changes but, althogether no, I dont think it would be possible for google to beat facebook

Google+ isn't quite as user friendly as Facebook. Plus, I think a lot of people don't really want to use more social networks then they need too. So I don't think it can ever dominate or become more successful then Facebook, unless maybe people become tired of FB constant privacy invasion. Although, I doubt that will happen.

I think they have quite a good chance, I mean, they have millions of users on their services already and they make it easy to get an account.

Remember when Facebook was the new kid on the block compared to MySpace? And now who uses MySpace? No one I know. The hardest obstacle Google+ will encounter is the millions of existing users who are so tied to Facebook that they can't imagine getting their friends, family and acquaintances to make the change with them. That's why I don't use Google+ - my entire family and most of my friends are on FB and there's no way I'm going to ask all 250+ of them to change over just for me.

I don't think Google+ will actually compete well with Facebook because when people see google on their browser, they will think of searching things on it an not about getting in touch with friends. Myspace was once a great place but they just died, i don't exactly know the reason but probably because they're not open to developers.

I think you're absolutely right about that, enhu. MySpace was horrible to developers and the advertisements became RIDICULOUS! Facebook does an excellent job of keeping ads small, short, and on the outer edges of the screen. They definitely learned from the mistakes that MySpace made.

I agree..Facebook ads aren't annoying at all, I mean sure we could do without them, but they have to make their money some how..this being a free service and all...
