    Do alternatives to youtube succeed?

    Sites that are a clone of youtube are rife over the internet but does anyone know if these sites succeed? There is plenty of open source software that does the same as youtube, but is there any point in starting up this type of site?

    Only reason to start a youtube clone, earn money. Some video sites are more lenient to copyrighted stuff that is why they survived or attracts a certain niche. Some also offer get paid to upload.

    Depends, if they look the part and have good videos, then yes. If they look terrible or possibly like a clone of YouTube, then no.
